PPG has introduced PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation, a seamless composite material designed as an economical, easy-to-apply alternative to conventional mechanical insulation. Versatile enough for use on steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and non-ferrous metals, PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation helps reduce energy use, enhance process stability and minimize the risk of corrosion under insulation (CUI) by providing a water-tight, anti-condensation seal on process equipment and piping at temperatures up to 350 F. As a spray-applied material, PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation helps facility owners and maintenance engineers reduce labor and equipment costs by enabling the use of smaller work crews, and by eliminating the need for measuring and fabrication of mechanical insulation and for erecting scaffolding for installation. PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation also lasts longer than mechanical insulation and is easily removed and re-applied, which can greatly reduce short-term repair and long-term maintenance costs. PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation can be coated directly on metal up to 300 degrees F, enabling process equipment to remain online during product installation. The material conforms to complex piping, flanges, vessels and other configurations that are difficult to insulate conventionally, and it can be used as a personnel protection material to protect workers from burn injuries and exposure to high temperatures. Diane Kappas, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings (PMC), Americas, said PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation provides an extraordinary combination of convenience, cost savings and anti-corrosion performance. “The need to protect workers, reduce cost and keep equipment running are all factors in determining the right insulation material for a particular project,” she explained. “In many instances, PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation can help plant owners and managers realize all those objectives while achieving significant cost savings. It is a win-win solution for most facilities.” PPG HI-TEMP 808 liquid insulation is engineered for a range of applications such as oil refineries; chemical, petrochemical, asphalt and ethanol plants; paper and sugar mills; offshore production platforms; and food processing facilities.
